Man, I gotta say that if 2016 was the year we lost our heroes, 2019 is the one where the rest stood up and did something. Look, I’m not saying Billie Joe Armstrong has been quiet. The man’s been on his work binge since Green Day released Revolution Radio. I’m just saying that this is proving to be an exciting year for the men and women my generation grew up idolizing. First came the damn graphic novel they decided to write ‘Last of the American Girls’ that Rolling Stone called “A fabulous left-wing love song to a rebel girl. . . when Armstrong sings, ‘she won’t cooperate,’ he’s giving her the highest compliment he can imagine.” Seriously, do all my heroes have to be involved in comics?
And now we get an Instagram post from Armstrong’s side project The Longshot promising an announcement sometime this week. I mean… how much is my heart supposed to take, Billie? Slow it down, Coach. Give us ‘90s kids a chance to recover from the ‘Young and Doomed’ headshot Iero gave us first.
