Indie-Pop singer JULA has released her debut single, ‘Leave’ via Tall Mountain Records on the 31st of May this year. The song was written by JULA and co-produced alongside Jan Schröder.

As an emerging artist, JULA has faced many obstacles within the industry and herself as she battled to embrace the mainstream media’s perception of what she should look like. The birth of her son caused a shift in perception, allowing her to step outside of these limitations she had created for herself. The result is an artist who has taken charge of themselves and their music, bringing forth an indie-pop album with dark undertones which address this growth and development.

Influenced by her appreciation and studies of Jazz music, JULA also takes inspiration from artists such as Björk, Muse and Destiny’s Child. The resulting debut EP, PHOENIX will be released in 2019.

“It’s about a feeling I sometimes have, a weight that I carry with me. A feeling that overwhelms me, which I can not escape. I wallow in it for a while, cover myself in it and then, all of a sudden, it’s gone. It’s a very lonely feeling, very dark, but it’s not necessarily negative, it’s a part of me I have learned to accept and even appreciate sometimes; without the low, I can’t experience the high.” – JULA on her single ‘Leave’.
