PREMIERE: Blues bassist JD Pinkus announces solo album

You may recognize Jeff Pinkus a.k.a. JD Pinkus from the 90’s American rock band & globally renowned act the  Butthole Surfers. After Jeff took a break from the band in the late ’90s, the bassist went on to explore side projects. He has worked with the likes of Butthole Surfers lead singer Gibby Haynes as well as the Australian music trio Daddy Longhead. After more than a decade of collaborating with other acts, JD Pinkus is finally ready to unveil more solo work and has announced a forthcoming album release for the 20th of August via Shimmy-Disc. The album name is titled Fungus Shui and will feature the track ‘Woke Up Dead’ which is rich in the blues. We are pleased to present the video for the track today.

Director ​​Josh Bishop adds: “ Sometimes your lucky if all ya wake up with is the blues…. I wrote this one about that time I woke up dead. Maxwell Sabastian captured that thing that goes on forever, that thing there are no words for… His interpretation is a beautiful celebration of this thing. I’m so very grateful for his mind and talents!
