Q&A with nostalgic rock ‘n roll band Novacain

Close friends and band Novacain formed in 2020, and have now shared their fourth single ‘Shine On Me’. Looking to create rock ‘n roll that calls to mind early 2000’s bangers that boomed on our speakers all through our teenage years, this band have certainly succeeded. This addictive tune will have you humming along to its cheeky chorus in a matter of seconds – guaranteed. High energy and good vibes are what we can feel when emerging ourselves in this glorious track that gives us nostalgia for carefree days, when you got yourself into the silliest situations with your friends.

We chatted with the awesome four-piece outfit Novacain and found out more about their journey as a band.

Looking back, what were some of your earliest entries into music appreciation? And music production?

The first album I ever bought unfortunately was a Take That album. My brother got What’s the Story Morning Glory album by Oasis at the same time, and proceeded to take the piss out of me until I caved and ditched Take That for Oasis. Luckily I continued down the Brit-pop/ indie rock route, which proves being an individual isn’t always cool 😂.

Take us through your songwriting process. Are there any particular steps you take when putting music together?

With my songs, they come almost fully formed. It’s like I’m listening to them on a muffled radio and every time I playback through them, they get clearer and clearer. All the songs are written individually then finished off collectively.

What gets your creative juices flowing?

Alcohol.

As a musician, it becomes apparent that there is a huge difference between the art and the business. Is there anything about the music scene that you would personally change?

I would make us the most famous band in the world and force everyone to listen to our music! I would also get a record label scout back into music venues and sign artists based on their live shows rather than buying their way to success

Studio work and music creation or performing and interacting with a live audience, which do you prefer?

Initially, I always preferred creating a song,  watching it grow from an idea that started out as a little jingle in your head into a full body of music. However, after a year off of gigs spent polishing our live set we are desperate to get back out there and interact with music fans. You don’t always fully understand your own songs until you have played them to a live audience. So to cut a long story short… my preference would be live shows

What is the most memorable response you have had to your music?

Seeing the crowd who have never seen you play before all singing along to your tunes.

What’s on your current playlist?

‘Shine On Me’ by Novacain 😜 . I’ve just been to Victorious Festival, so most bands that played there, eg. Supergrass, Miles Kane, Cast and the Kooks

Breakdown the news for us: what can we expect from you in the near future?

Loads of new songs, relaxing on Spotify and epic live shows!!!

Famous last words?

We’ll see you when you’re famous!

‘Shine On Me’ features on the Spotify playlist INDIE_GRØUND
