Q&A with charming psychedelic rock singer ANIQO

ANIQO is a Berlin-based musician and songwriter on a mission to share authentic lyrics that have deep meaning attached to them. She succeeds with the new song ‘Fear’, which was released via SPRINGSTOFF, and talks about the singer’s darkest thoughts. The track will feature on ANIQO’s forthcoming album BIRTH, and is a lovely taste of her psychedelic mastery that we look forward to seeing explored further when the album is released. Many don’t care to share their flaws and paralyzing concerns, ANIQO’s song is a liberating gem that will leave one feeling more confident to address how they really feel. We had a chat with the singer after the song was released and discovered she is just as open and delightful as her sound.

What gets your creative juices flowing?

Everything that expands consciousness; love, art, nature, meditation, sex, and drugs – although I hardly consume anything except Marijuana from time to time.

As a musician, it becomes apparent that there is a huge difference between the art and the business. Is there anything about the music scene that you would personally change?

I would be happy if the music mattered more and the numbers less.

Studio work and music creation or performing and interacting with a live audience, which do you prefer?

I enjoy all of it. And I can’t really compare it. Music creation is something very intimate – it doesn’t need a reaction from the outside – it’s a deep satisfaction that comes from the inside. In the studio, everything is put together and the vision that was created with the first demo recordings are realized and refined. The songs are put into a form for the listeners at home. It is the first contact with the audience. But the most direct interaction with them is a live experience – it’s about giving and receiving in turn.

When speaking about the song’s meaning, you mentioned: “It’s an encouragement to not to be irritated by our own little devil or shadow sides that nibbles at our self-confidence and often keeps us from going down new paths.” What does your shadow side contain?

The desire for amusement in any sense. We humans always need to be entertained and are quickly bored… This is a trait of mine that I accept as a human, but still do not find beautiful. When I am not doing so well and doubt myself – there are also characteristics like envy, jealousy, and anger. These are three things that I find very shady and I also don’t like to accept them – but I guess I have to.

What is the most memorable response you have had to your music?

Tears were and are always the most beautiful compliment and give me a raison d’être with my music. It can touch hearts.

What’s on your current playlist?

I am looking forward to the new album by Damon Albarn. Love the new singles…Also, I love a girl who also lives in Berlin – her name is THALA. She just released her debut called Adolescence.

What have been some of the biggest fears that you have overcome?

The fear of not being good enough. And I always manage to overcome the fear of being alone – but I am still afraid of the dark.

Breakdown the news for us: what can we expect from you in the near future?

After ‘Fear’, there be two other song releases before BIRTH, my debut which will be released at the beginning of the upcoming year. And hopefully a lot of shows in 2022.

Famous last words?

Be kind :-).
