Skies Behind, the entirely-independent alternative rock sensation hailing from Cork, Ireland, unleashed a new track, ‘I Love It’, on October 13th 2023. The song is the first single from their eagerly-awaited EP, The Spaces. Skies Behind has been steadily gaining momentum in the alternative rock scene, known for their unapologetic ‘bangers only’ mentality. In 2023, the band made waves with a series of singles that captivated audiences across Ireland, setting the stage for their meteoric rise. Their first-ever Irish tour in March/April 2023 saw them deliver electrifying performances in iconic venues such as Whelan’s in Dublin, Cork’s Cyprus Avenue, McHugh’s in Belfast, and Aras na Gael in Galway. The talented trio draws inspiration from an eclectic mix of musical influences, including Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters, Pillow Queens, and Lower than Atlantis, resulting in a distinctive sound that sets them apart from the crowd.
‘I Love It’ is a defiant and hopeful anthem – full of movement and feeling, it takes the listener on a journey filled with emotional passion and musical precision. Fabulously tight, rolling drums, old school guitars and a pulsating bassline are all reminiscent of the timelessly feverish rock and roll of the late 90s and early 2000s. Vocalist and rhythm guitarist Dan Sheedy’s delivery is raw, triumphant and commanding, drawing the listener into the emotional journey of his lyrics, which explore themes of feeling out of control. The musical arrangement is incredibly dynamic, launching the listener from one potent emotion to another, deftly building tension and exploding into passages of pure head-banging goodness.
Speaking about ‘I Love It’, the band shared: “This song is about the overwhelming feeling of not being in control and not understanding what will make you happy. The hope in this song comes from the realization that leaning on those closest to you, and being there when they need you, is the greatest source of balance.“
