The dynamic five-piece rock band from Mid-Wales have announced the release of their debut album, SuperPowers, out everywhere on December 1st, 2023. After months of teasing and the release of singles like ‘Killer’ and ‘Caer Bryn’, they are ready to end the year with a bang. Formed in early 2017, Shop Front Heroes comprises Stevie Yeomans (Lead Vocals, Guitar, and Piano), Jake Owen (Lead Guitar/Vox), Matt Whitehouse (Drums), Tom Jaques (Guitar/Vox), and Alex Middleton (Bass). SuperPowers was recorded at the prestigious Rockfield Studios. The album was expertly mixed by Stew Jackson (known for his work with Massive Attack, Emily Breeze, and Marc Ford) and mastered by Sean Magee (renowned for his contributions to The Beatles, Queen, Rush, and Radiohead) at the iconic Abbey Road Studios.
Channeling the influences of legendary acts like Queen, Shop Front Heroes deliver a versatile range of musicality in SuperPowers that will elicit a full spectrum of reactions, from introspection to catharsis to head banging. The album features collaborations with string players from Yeomans’ past, a male voice choir from their hometown, and guest appearances from friends and former bandmates. The band is a tastefully tight rock and roll unit, Yeomans’ vocals are full of soul and emotion, and the production is crisp and clear.
Yeomans reflects: “Recording SuperPowers was such an organic, wholesome, and nutritious process. We kept everything about it so real, and as an independent band, we tried to swing the bat as hard as we could to make it… We borrowed money from a local business to fund it, wrote all the songs in a barn on a hill, just outside our houses, produced the album ourselves, and spent two weeks hanging out together at the spiritual rock mecca that is Rockfield Studios in Wales to record it… We are so proud of what we have made. It’s not easy to produce and release an album yourself, but we’ve done it properly and couldn’t be happier with it.”
