Seth Tabatznik’s new album, Awakening Embers, is out today on Moth Music. The release features the single ‘Pacha Mama’ and comes just ahead of his set at the Retreat Yourself Festival’s Forest Stage. After growing up in London, Tabatznik now lives in South Africa’s Western Cape mountains. Since he started releasing music in 2024, he has reached over 200,000 streams, received praise from CLASH Magazine and EARMILK for singles like ‘Shining For Love’ and ‘Choose To Be Alive’, and played sold-out shows at Green Note in London and Boschendal Estate near Cape Town. His acoustic folk style blends medicine music influences, layered harmonies, and simple lyrics to explore themes connected to the earth. Nick Mulvey helped shape the album, and Rainer Scheurenbrand’s guitar style is a clear influence, putting Tabatznik alongside artists like Ben Howard, Blanco White, and Gregory Alan Isakov.
The record centers on nature, respect, healing, and unity, all set to approachable indie-folk structures. The opening track, ‘Dear Nature’, sets a quiet, devotional tone, while the closing ‘We Are Walking Home’ opens with broader acoustic influences. At its core, ‘Pacha Mama’ explores ideas of growth and change, anchored by firm drum patterns, thoughtful guitar lines, shaker percussion, and Tabatznik’s clear vocal presence, which carries detailed storytelling.
Tabatznik will perform the new songs live at special launch events on March 14 and 15 at Boschendal Farm in the winelands. These small, ticketed shows will include both music and discussions about the album’s themes. In April, he will also play at Reforest Fest at Bodhi Khaya Nature Retreat.
Seth shared: “I don’t have many regrets in life, but after hearing the sound of this album, which was recorded in the studio, I really wish I had now recorded the first album in there rather than at home. This album is sounding amazing and am super excited to be sharing it with the world. It was a lot of fun to put together, one of those processes that just emerged from a flow state effortlessly like it wanted to be born. The whole thing took just a few months from conceiving the songs to completing the mixing.”
