Plain Mister Smith lands his third single ‘Andy Warhol’ today, December 2, via Amelia Recordings/Symphonic, another killer preview of the full album due spring 2026. The Vancouver-and-London-based artist cut his teeth as guitarist in the pioneering Canadian darkwave band Moev back in the day and now plays cello with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, a résumé that already tells you he doesn’t stay in one lane. Since launching the Plain Mister Smith project he’s earned steady love from NPR Music, CLASH Magazine, Wonderland, Under The Radar, NOTION, Earmilk, METAL, Noctis, and Atwood, proof the weird kid with the acoustic turned into someone outlets actually fight to cover.

‘Andy Warhol’ is easily his rowdiest move yet. Leeroy Stagger tears into the verses with that gravelled bark he’s known for, while Krystle Dos Santos weaves airy, almost gospel-tinged responses that lift the whole thing skyward. Underneath, the electric guitars snarl through chords that feel half Pavement slacker genius, half War on Drugs wide-screen glow, riding a bass line that refuses to sit still and drums that pound like they’re late for the next bar. It still carries his trademark quick-witted lyrics and that undercurrent of self-examination, only now it’s plugged in and loud.

Plain Mister Smith shared: “I met Andy Warhol many years ago at the New Music Seminar in New York. He was pretty chill and serene or seemed that way. He was quoted to have said “So What this, So What that”? which is about the most Zen thing you could ever say. ‘Andy Warhol’ the song, is about trying to be super Soto Zen, trying to be cool and so nothing phases you but really, you’re just a chaotic mess of a human, no matter what you do…….”
