Sydney’s indie rock trio Valley Onda just unleashed their new single ‘Minacious’ on July 18th, 2025, through Valley Onda Records. Since kicking off in 2019, they’ve racked up over 350,000 streams, with their introspective edge catching the ears of triple j and tastemaker outlets like The AU Review and Happy Mag. The band’s live cred includes national tours with The Money War and Brightness, while Jordan Wilson (ex-Georgia Fair) has opened for heavyweights like Paul Kelly, Laurel, and John Mayer. Meanwhile, Michiya Nagai brings his own chops, having played to 15,000-strong crowds at The Grass is Greener with Lamalo and scored a TEDx Melbourne virtual event. Formed in a post-tour haze at a Sydney restaurant, the group’s sound took shape when Jordan linked up with producer Galen Sultmann, who later roped in Michiya, a classically trained pianist.
‘Minacious’ dives deep, mixing Western-style cinematic grit with dark synth pulses, elusive guitar riffs, and a vocal that soars over wide-open effects. It’s a track that bends genres, pulling listeners through a tense, transformative ride with layers that echo influences like Radiohead and The Black Angels. The production feels deliberately big, atmospheric, and crafted to hit hard and linger.
The band laid it out straight: “‘Minacious’ is the spirit of going through to move beyond. It’s about confronting your fear and stepping into the unknown. With a Western Sci-Fi feel the song moves through eerie landscapes, unafraid to keep taking steps towards its transcendent destiny. A voyage if you will. Again this song has a heavy studio vibe, which combines all of what makes Valley Onda great, big guitars, synths and beats under a huge vocal.”
