This past Wednesday marked the drop of UNTANGLE, the bold sophomore album from Swedish-raised, Los Angeles-based artist Olovson, released November 19, 2025 on his label 1136 Diamond. Coming off Storytelling in 2022, an album that crossed 3 million streams and earned props from outlets like CLASH, PopMatters, Wonderland Magazine, Rolling Stone India, plus airplay on BBC Radio 6 and NTS, this one feels way more exposed. Olovson finally puts his vocals front and center after years of emotive piano work and behind-the-scenes production. Raised in a musical household, he was playing piano by age seven and recording his own stuff in his early teens. His resume includes Grammy-level credits with Frank Ocean, Dua Lipa, and Mark Ronson, plus syncs like ‘Books Are Flying’ in The Man Who Fell to Earth on SHOWTIME and festival nods for the ‘Gyroscope’ visual at places like LIFA and Encounters.

Across the album, Olovson moves fluidly between tactile ambient electronica, downtempo lo-fi R&B, and piano compositions laced with jazz harmony and subtle shifts. His voice stays understated but carries real weight, guiding the listener through changes in mood and density. Early single ‘THINGS I COULD’VE LEFT BEHIND’ turned heads at NPR Music, KCRW, and KEXP 90.3 FM, the title track landed on Spotify‘s New Music Friday Sweden, and its video debuted via KALTBLUT Magazine. Standout ‘RIVER’ sums up the record’s core, blending hazy R&B atmospheres with detailed, left-field production that echoes James Blake, Sampha, and Blood Orange. The self-shot iPhone stop-motion clip follows a puppet gathering twigs for a raft and floating downriver, straightforward and effective.

Olovson revealed: “The album takes you from track 1 (‘THINGS I COULD’VE LEFT BEHIND’), you’ve held on to baggage and it’s too heavy to carry any longer, so you make the decision to face it and put down your baggage. All the way to the last track (‘FLOWERS TOLD ME SO’) where nature, which has been here forever way longer than us, gives us peace in telling us everything will move on, everything will grow again, everything is moving on, and so should you.
