Mazare unveiled his Ego Death EP this past weekend via Universal Music Italia, marking another bold step in his genre-blending journey. Hailing from Northeast Italy, Mazare’s earliest musical memories are steeped in his father’s vinyl collection, spinning Pink Floyd, U2, and Genesis, until the pulse of electronic music caught his ear in 2009 with David Guetta’s ‘When Love Takes Over’. His sound now surges between electrifying metal-electronic fusions and infectious pop-rock, inspired by the likes of The Prodigy, Noisia, and Bring Me The Horizon. With support from heavyweights such as SLANDER, Koven, and Don Diablo, Mazare’s tracks have found homes on Monstercat and Insomniac Records, amassing over 35 million Spotify streams and a rapidly expanding global fanbase.
For the title track ‘Ego Death’, Mazare joins forces with Glasgow’s Newshapes, an alternative rock and post-hardcore band known for their soaring melodies, thunderous instrumentation, and raw, emotive songwriting. With each new release and electrifying live show, Newshapes have carved out a reputation as one of Scotland’s most exciting rising heavy acts.
The track begins with a hazy, sidechained synth pad that floats beneath Ian Mann’s vocals, gradually building tension as anticipation swells for an EDM drop. Instead, the song erupts into a powerful collision of metalcore and drum & bass, where rapid-fire breakbeats intertwine with the punch of a live acoustic kit. The result is a seamless fusion of electronic intricacy and rock intensity, sure to resonate with fans of Pendulum, blink-182, and Bring Me The Horizon.
Mazare shared: “I was looking for the perfect conclusion for this ep, something that would sum up all the sounds, styles and atmospheres I went through with the whole project. That’s how ‘Ego Death‘ was born, a testament to breaking boundaries and going out of your comfort zone. And as I was looking for the right band to bring on board for the project, I came across Newshapes and was impressed by their sound and their range. It was an instant match and it’s safe to say I’m beyond happy with how the song turned out, they absolutely killed it!”
Newshapes shared: “When Mazare approached us to collaborate, we instantly knew it was something we wanted to be a part of. We knew Mazare had made a name for himself blending drum & bass with metal and post-hardcore influences; while we’ve always woven drum & bass and electronic elements into our own post-hardcore sound. We’re all huge fans of the genre and have even explored it in our own tracks like ‘reach’, so this felt like the perfect opportunity to fully embrace those influences more than we ever have before. It was such fun and rewarding collaboration, and we think the result feels like a natural and exciting meeting point between our two worlds.”
