Irish indie rockers The Burma have returned with a fabulous full-length album titled Crazy Dreams & Cruel Realities, released on the 6th of October 2023 via their own label The Burma Music Group. The band is made up of Tony O Donovan (Vocals), Peter Piggott (Lead Guitar) and Cian Doherty (Drums). They have received praise from The Rolling Stone India, CLASH Magazine, NOTION Magazine, Hot Press, Atwood Magazine, and Medium.com/Pop Off, while gaining extensive airplay across Ireland, the UK, and the USA. Their single from this LP ‘Holiday’ has received support from tastemaker EARMILK.
Crediting their influence to the 2000s American Indie scene, the trio cites Tame Impala, The Strokes, and Mac Demarco as their main inspirations. Crazy Dreams & Cruel Realities delivers all you need from an indie rock album: anthemic hooks, big primary-color emotions, jangly guitars, tight drumming and brooding lyrics. O Donovan’s velvety – sometimes distorted – vocals croon and soar while he lyrically explores universal topics of love and growth, while still evoking the emotional potency of personal experience.
The band had this to say: “We started writing and recording “Crazy Dreams & Cruel Realities” a couple of weeks after releasing our debut album last year. The first album was put together over a long period of time and features a few guest musicians who we’ve played with over the years. This album however, was written and performed solely by the three of us, so I think it’s a better representation of the band right now. When it came to picking a title we realized that there were two different types of songs on the album – half of them were light-hearted, dreamy pop songs and the other half had a darker, more serious mood to them. Tony came up with the title “Crazy Dreams & Cruel Realities” to reflect this duality on the album.”
