New York-based musician Totten Bridge has unveiled his latest offering, ‘I Can’t Leave Us Behind,’ released on 24 November via StephJam Music. With nearly 2 million digital streams, as well as continued support from publications like Notion Mag, Earmilk, and Backseat Mafia, Totten Bridge’s melancholic magic both sets hearts alight and drives dancefloors. His previous single, ‘Better Than Me’ received early coverage from CLASH Magazine. With the release of ‘I Can’t Leave Us Behind’, Totten Bridge showcases that his music is not beholden to easy categorisation. His myriad influences include the likes of Sam Fender, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Coldplay, and Imagine Dragons. Listen to the heart-aching track right here:
Fusing elements of rock, Americanah and British pop, Totten Bridge’s music incorporates a diverse mosaic of time-honored pop motifs. Referencing rhythms from folk, Motown, and even EDM. Throughout his wide catalog of sounds, Totten Bridge has consistently created relatably fresh and exciting hits. Thematically centered around love, his lyrics ground his experimental tendencies and invite each listener to resonate strongly on an intrinsic level.
Resplendent with rock-heavy chord progressions and a mean bass riff, ‘I Can’t Leave Us Behind’ also features a tremendously catchy four-to-the-floor drum beat. As the crescendo arrives, we as listeners are ushered into a potent climax. Reminiscent of radio-friendly Ed Sheeran deliveries, with the roots-rock edginess of Sam Fender, Totten Bridge’s vocals are luxuriously decadent as he croons about the unsettling nature of a romantic relationship’s devastating aftermath. Instead of erasing the memories and focusing on spite – Totten Bridge refuses such shallow messages and instead demands growth.
Regarding the new release, Totten Bridge shared: “I Can’t Leave Us Behind” is a torch song about a love that continues to linger on in the heart and mind forever. It simmers like a burning ember that cannot be extinguished and is a constant reminder when an old favorite song comes on the radio or when the sun sets. It’s a universal feeling that everyone has felt at one time in their life. It’s part of the journey through life and love and it’s what makes us who we are.”
