Form Affinity emerged from London’s underground guitar scene with their debut album, Needling. The four-piece band, rooted in emo-punk and slowcore, handle every aspect of their sound including writing and producing. Over the past two years, they have built a dedicated following through electric performances at venues including The Windmill Brixton, The George Tavern, The Shacklewell Arms and Ormside Projects. Their growing reputation has secured them a place on the long list for Green Man Festival 2026.
Needling is a raw and emotionally charged debut, capturing Form Affinity at their most exposed. The album’s recording process distills the volatility and intimacy of their live sets, translating that kinetic energy into the studio. Shoegaze, emo, slowcore and 90s indie rock converge, resulting in a sound that references the past while remaining distinctly present. On ‘Girls Name Kennedy‘, the band moves from quiet restraint to surging distortion and catharsis. The lead single ‘Prettiest Girl Of All Time’ shifts between fragile melodies and eruptive climaxes, driven by layered guitars, forceful drums, shimmering synths and assertive vocals.
Form Affinity shaped Needling in the foreground of London’s post-hardcore and emo circles, drawing on the influence of local acts like Dog Saints and Magda (1999). The album channels the spirit of the city’s independent scene while blazing its own trail. As guitar-driven alternative music regains momentum, Needling stands as the perfect debut for a band looking to cement their place in the UK alternative scene.
